Why choose a Celebrant?

Sunset Reading

How does it work?

Therapy

I am a deeply spiritual person and having attended many traditional funeral services felt that they did not provide the personal experience to truly reflect the deceased persons essence so I looked into becoming a Celebrant after the deaths of both my parents. I am a fully trained and certified Independent Funeral and Family Celebrant. I am a member of the Fellowship of Professional Celebrants, recognised, recommended and approved by NAFD.

Originally from the Midlands, I moved to Surrey for University and am still here!
I started my career in retail management and then progressed into management training across a range of different companies. In recent years I have been working for a charity catering for Autistic young adults running bespoke one to one educational programmes to aid them towards employability and teaching them everyday skills to prepare for their futures. I have an affinity for working with people, enjoying hearing about their experiences in life and helping them grow and progress.

I am married with three children who keep me very busy even though they have flown the nest. My interests and hobbies are varied, I love being creative making fused glass, cake decorating and cookery. I have a love of reading, gardening and spend many a weekend cycling in the local countryside and along the canals.

As a fully trained and certified Celebrant with The Fellowship of Professional Celebrants, I work mainly across Surrey, Hampshire, and Berkshire but am more than happy to travel further afield. I will create a personal, bespoke ceremony which may include readings from loved ones, friends or family, memories, music, songs, singing, prayers or reflections. Let us make the service exactly what you want.

I will discuss with you about what your loved one’s wishes were and then I will tailor the service to your requirements.

Families often comment that their loved one was not really religious and that church was not a part of their everyday lives and therefore do not desire any religious content. Other people may like to take elements of religion and spirituality and have them woven creatively into the service. It is your choice. The service may be traditional, modern, a memorial, or a celebration of life. You may want a simple or a more elaborate service and I promise to work with you to ensure it will be what you want it to be, personal, special and unique.

I will help to plan the order of service, write a bespoke eulogy or help you, a family member or a friend to create your own. Together as your Celebrant I will design a truly special and meaningful service which allow you the opportunity to say goodbye and celebrate your loved one’s life.

Let me work in partnership with yourself and your chosen Funeral Director (if you are using one) to create a totally personal service.  We will work as one, the Funeral Director, the Celebrant and yourselves to ensure all aspects of your wishes are followed. As your Celebrant I will spend time with you, your family gathering the memories of your loved one which are special and will reflect them perfectly. If you think of other memories after our meeting, you can call, and they can be added.

Your service can include members of your family and special friends or work colleagues. You might have special elements you would like to be included to make the service individual and unique. A Celebrant gives you the choice to decide what you want to be included in the service. You can be a part of the service yourselves with friends and family conducting eulogies, readings, memories if you wish or I will happily create or read them for you.

I will ensure that you have an opportunity to read through the service in advance and to consult with you as the process evolves. After the service I will leave you with a personal copy of the service as a keepsake.

A Celebrant ceremony can be held in most places, it is all about choice.

Your chosen Funeral Director is able to instruct the Celebrant on your behalf should you wish, otherwise you can manage this independently.
